Great cycling this week..

Out and about on the bike this week C4SC took on the Great Dublin Bike Ride, Billy took on 4 Counties Challenge with Galtee Wheelers while the Sunday spin had 2 groups out. Here you had to choose your group wisely - 90km of hills and speed or 60km of mainly flat roads with the odd sneaky hill thrown in just to maximise training. Apart from a few punctures, great cycling for everyone and home in time for Sunday lunch.

A choice of events are on next Sunday- Na Piarsaigh 5k Walk/ 75k Cycle/Family Sports Day in aid of Blood Bike Mid West or GIVING A LITTLE BACK 60km event in aid of Breast Cancer awareness. Check out the attached for more information.

More cyclists on the road, more punctures are bound to happen on club spins but you can minimise your chances of getting punctures. Correct tyre pressure, good quality tyres, check the tyres regularly for cracks, pin holes and wear ‘n tear. Getting regular punctures means there is something wrong so if you have checked tyres and tubes, check the wheels themselves for sharp edges, spokes breaking through to the tube, etc.

More cyclists also seems to bring out more incidents of road rage. Thankfully the majority of motorists are very aware of passing out cyclists, giving room at pinch points, roundabouts etc but there are still far too many close shaves of cars overtaking and having to pull back in to the line of cyclists. This morning a number of club members on individual spins met a very angry individual on the Ennis Road which necessitated the Gardai’s attendance. Happily everyone got home safely but it was a very unpleasant encounter for everyone concerned. Be vigilant as a motorist or a cyclist – everyone is someone’s mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter.
