C4SC supporting local charity cycles and taking on major challenges

The weather was on our side for once last weekend and C4SC were out supporting local charity cycles and participating in some of the most challenging sportifs of the season. First off was the Cycle of the Lakes from Sixmilebridge, 120km sportif in aid of The Bridge Complex, Bunratty Search & Rescue, Special Olympics and the Irish Cancer Society.

We had 7 in total participating and the pace was hot throughout. The cycle was superbly organised with a food-stop at Feakle and a BBQ at the finish. Well done to the organisers and a special welcome back to club member Ger Keohane on his return, its great to see Ger back after a long absence through injury.

Meanwhile in Killaloe we had several members participating in a charity cycle in aid of the Limerick Neo Natal Unit around the scenic Lough Derg. Well done to club members Martin Doherty, Paul Rose and Phillip Fitzgerald.

Over 3 days last weekend club member Ger Hourigan took on the Kingdom Alliance Sportif, which is 3 cycles over 3 days, 100 miles per day over the most scenic parts of Kerry, taking in most of the iconic climbs of the region. This was a fantastic achievement by Ger, the training is paying dividends. Ger was joined on two of the days by Ita Browne who is flying up the climbs but also flying on the TT circuit. They were both joined on Day 2 by Dave Bulfin. A superb effort by all concerned.

Club member Graham Loughman took on the Bobby Power Carrick Wheeler’s Challenge Sportif on Sunday and this is one of the toughest of the season with 10 climbs and a total of 2,200 meters of climbing. This was a serious achievement by Graham who has also been racing and performing well on that front for the club throughout the season.

Club members have recently been making the trip out to Cratloe to test their climbing skills, each Wednesday our spin covers some of the climbs around the region at a relaxed pace, 6.50 at LIT for roll out at 7pm.
