Race Season off to flying start and C4SC look forward to 2 Charity Cycles this weekend

The last two weeks for the club have been hectic indeed on the race front. On Sunday 24th of Feb the team made the trip to Loughrea for the West Coast Wheeler’s Road Race and our guys were very prominent throughout. Dave O’Brien Jiri Sladek, Philip Fitzgerald, Gareth O’Callaghan and Mark Power put on the C4SC jersey and did the club proud. A very quick pace was set throughout. Jiri, Gareth and Dave came home safe and sound in the main bunch. Philip produced an outstanding performance finishing 11th on his debut whilst Mark Power was unlucky not to steal the show after experiencing a mechanical, remounting to catch the leading group to finish 6th taking 3 valuable points towards promotion to A3. This was Marks race debut also, a fantastic result. Last Sunday 3rd of March the team made the trip to Broadford, County Limerick for the Cycling Pursuits Cup, one of the season’s toughest events. We had 7 cyclists on the road in what was a large peloton. Two finishing in the top 15 was yet another wonderful result as the team continues to grow in strength and all our lads came home safely. It was another race debut for club member Kevin Flanagan, fantastic effort by Kevin. Great start to the season by the lads, who are already looking forward to Rás Luimni next weekend.

On Monday 25th Feb, The Lime Tree Theatre played host to “Whistle-blowers’” David Walsh and Paul Kimmage. A packed house listened intently to both Irish men recount their experiences with Lance Armstrong and other issues relating to drug use in sport. All proceeds of the night going to the Simon community and thanks to Paul Kimmage, to C4SC. Thank you yet again Paul.

Our Sunday club spin was over 80km taking in the climbs at Pipers Hill and Broadford. We had one of our best turnouts so far of the year and it is great testament to our road captains on the route and Mick Garry for their hard work and dedication each and every Sunday.

This weekend the club will be supporting two charity cycles in both Limerick city and county. First off on Saturday March 9th from Kinsella’s Bar at Thomondgate is the Pat Nolan School for the Deaf Charity Cycle over 50km. This will roll out at 10am sharp. Meanwhile on the same day from Deebert House, Kilmallock, the Fun Day for Lucy Cycle, over 30km and 60km will commence at 10am, sign on from 8.45. There will be no club spin on Sunday.
